RELIGIOUS OPPRESSION TEST RESULTS: POSITIVE Part of the point for todays Prince of Peace post was to test the limits of what people felt comfortable sharing, commenting, or even liking in a public forum. Here are snippets from some of the private replies weve received within 30 minutes. (In fact, I dont think weve ever received so many private messages over a single post...) - I would totaly share the sword billboard if I could, but I know that I would lose at least 30 facebook friends in an hour. Not to mention many of my coworkers would probably report me. - Tamara - I wanted to comment on the billboard post but my boss and my parents are on Facebook. No way jose! - Alan - The last post with Jesus and the sword is one of the most damning things Ive seen in a long time but theres no way I could ever share it. This is America after all. I need to feed my kids! - Karen - I know you said you wont actually use that terrorist billboard in public, but I wish you would. I cant even like it or my family would disown me. Literally. - Chryste - I want to share that new billboard sooooo bad. Unfortunately, Im not suicidal! - Stephanie TAKEAWAYS: Its one thing to question creationism, its another thing to question Jesus. Sure, you draw a cartoon of Muhammad and receive death threats. But share somebody elses illustration of an actual Bible verse and lose your family, friends, and job? Make no mistake - oppression is alive and well, people. (P.S. - I TOTALLY understand! This post is NOT a judgment but an acknowledgment! Theres no way in hell that Id ever be able to share that image on my private profile either! But, isnt that the point?)
