REMINDER Midwest PARC 2013 Meeting, August 2-4, 2013 Conservation of Urban Amphibians and Reptiles - Registration and Call For Papers due July 19 This very affordable conference will bring together people from 12 states to share information on the conservation of urban amphibians and reptiles. It will be of interest to anyone working on habitat restoration or management in the region. Selected presentations include: “Comparing the effects of development on turtles across species and land-use gradients in Wisconsin”, “The Neotenic Tiger Salamanders of the Badger Army Ammunition Plant”, “Blanding’s Turtle Conservation and Educational Efforts in a Portion of Wisconsin Affected by Suburbanization”, “The Development of an Electric Fence to Reduce Freshwater Turtle Nest Predation”, “Use of comparative brumation and release approaches for headstarting and recovery of smooth green snakes” and “A 20 year study of amphibian and reptile reintroduction”. Keynote Speakers: - Bob Cook (Cape Cod National Seashore) on a 20 year study of amphibian and reptile reintroduction: Herpetological Restoration in an Urban Landscape - Mike Mossman (Wisconsin DNR) on a unique case of human induced evolution in tiger salamanders: Reservoir Waterdogs: the Neotenic Tiger Salamanders of the Badger Army Ammunition Plant Call For Papers: Call for papers and posters is open until July 19, 2013. Send to: Gary Casper, gc@greatlakeseco. The Midwest PARC co-chairs will review all applications and notice of acceptance should be provided within 2 weeks of receipt. In general this will be a first come first serve process, so get your abstracts in early! Guidelines for Posters - Poster topics may address any aspect of the Midwest PARC mission (amphibian and reptile conservation), including basic research on species found in the Midwest. Posters should be laid out as typical but brief scientific papers (introduction, methods, results, discussion), or present some relevant program or initiative (such as an amphibian monitoring program or restoration project) with objectives, methods, and current results. Poster presenters should bring their own easels and backboards if possible (limited easels and wall mount space are available). Guidelines for Presentations - The topic should be relevant to the theme Conservation of Urban Amphibians and Reptiles. Presentations should include introduction, methods, results, and discussion sections, or present on a relevant program or initiative (such as an amphibian monitoring program or restoration project) with objectives, methods, and current results. Presenters will have 15 minutes for their talk plus 5 minutes for questions (20 minutes total). Submit Title, Author Names with affiliations and email contacts (* on the presenter name), abstract (limit to 300 words or less). Presentations should be prepared in Powerpoint and copied to a thumb drive/memory stick, with fonts embedded. We will provide a Windows laptop and projector.
