REMINDER TO MYSELF................................. Stem Canker could be avoided by proper pruning procedures and the application of appropriate fungicides. 1. Keep canes from crossing each other. 2. Prune out dead or dying wood. 3. When planting new plants, take care not to damage canes. 4. When pruning or deadheading, cut back to the node. Failing to do so, results in dieback to the node, and the resulting dead wood is an invitation to canker spores. 5. Apply fungicides, that control black spot on ornamentals as they will also control canker.
