RENAULT UK CLIO CUP TO FORM KEY PART OF #RACINGFORHEROES INITIATIVE Help for Heroes, one of the country’s most high-profile and highly respected charities, will be a permanent feature on the Renault UK Clio Cup grid in 2015 as part of an exciting new motorsport initiative entitled #RacingforHeroes Officially launched this morning, Monday, 1st December, the programme is the brainchild of Stirling Motorsport Management’s Peter Thorpe and has been created to raise awareness of and funds for Help for Heroes and the many wounded, sick and injured military veterans the charity supports. At the same time, #RacingforHeroes will help to develop and nurture some of Britain’s very best motor racing talent. In the case of the Renault UK Clio Cup, Tom Butler (Allestree, Derby) will graduate into the championship from club-level feeder category the Michelin Clio Cup Race Series. “I am extremely proud to be given the opportunity to represent #RacingforHeroes”, said the elated 20-year-old, “I can’t wait to make my debut in the Renault UK Clio Cup and I’m very excited about the 2015 season, especially the chance to be part of such an original and rewarding partnership.” Butler will pilot a 1.6-litre turbo-charged Renault Clio under the #RacingforHeroes banner which will also have a presence in the headline Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship as well as the other BTCC support categories. Notably, this year’s Renault UK Clio Cup Vice-Champion Josh Cook (Bath) will graduate into the BTCC as the championship’s #RacingforHeroes driver to further underline the Clio Cup’s position as the prime ante-chamber for touring car racing in the UK. Cook, who won six races this year, will resume his on-track battles with 2014 champion Mike Bushell (Tunbridge Wells) in the BTCC – the latter having already confirmed his step-up into the UK’s biggest series. The Renault link also continues in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship where 2013 Renault UK Clio Cup and Eurocup Clio champion Josh Files (Norwich) will represent #RacingforHeroes “On behalf of Renault UK and everyone involved in the Renault UK Clio Cup I’d like to say how very proud we are to be associated with Help for Heroes – what a fantastic initiative #RacingforHeroes is”, said championship manager Will Fewkes, “We’re obviously delighted to see Tom [Butler] make his graduation from the Clio Cup Series, I’m sure he’ll develop very strongly in 2015. “The other incredible news, of course, is to learn Josh [Cook] will be the second driver in quick succession to step-up into the BTCC from Renault Clios. To have our champion, Mike Bushell, and now our Vice-Champion as well in touring cars next year is total confirmation of the Clio Cup’s strength and position. We wish Josh and his #RacingforHeroes programme every success.” With a long-term goal of establishing a BTCC team solely comprising military veterans, today’s announcement of the #RacingforHeroes initiative – which is an official Help for Heroes charity partner – is the first step on a very exciting path for all involved. Peter Thorpe, founder of #RacingforHeroes, said: “We, as a group, are so proud to launch such an exciting team into British motorsport in support of Help for Heroes. Its a unique idea, forging relationships between drivers and sponsors and offering our partners what is the biggest PR and marketing platform in UK racing. “We’re delighted Tom [Butler] will represent us in the Renault UK Clio Cup and Josh [Cook] will be our contender in British Touring Cars after a fantastic season in Clios this year. It truly is a very exciting time for everyone involved.” Cars in each championship will be identically branded with the #RacingforHeroes livery, as will the drivers, engineers, team personnel and support staff. With today’s official launch now completed, #RacingforHeroes is keen to hear from prospective brand partners and sponsors interested in getting involved in this truly unique motorsport and fund-raising project.
