RENOWNED KENYAN ACTOR WHO PLAYED IDI AMIN IS DEAD. R.I.P WUOD ALEGO SIAYA COUNTY Many of you (unless you were born in the early 90s) will remember the Kenyan movie block-buster, Rise and Fall of Idi Amin, also known as Amin: The Rise and Fall. Well, for the sake of the ‘xaxa, xema, qwani, Jarundar, qwendar’ generation, Rise and Fall of Idi Amin is a 1981 biographical film that details the controversial actions and atrocities of the former dictator of Uganda, Idi Amin Dada, during his violent rise to power in 1971 until his overthrow in 1979 as the result of the Uganda–Tanzania War. It was a co-production of the United Kingdom, Kenya and Nigeria, with most of filming done in Kenya, less than a year after Amins downfall. Anyhow, not many people know what became of Joseph Olita, the Kenyan actor who portrayed Idi Amin in the film. Apart from the fact that Olita, in his prime, stood 6 feet 5 1⁄2 inches (196.9 cm) and weighed 320 pounds (150 kg) which resulted in his resemblance to Idi Amin Dada, most people don’t know what fate befell the actor. Well, the old man used to hawk DVDS around Buru Buru Shopping Center (at the Uchumi Car Park) hawking pirated DVDs of the same movie he premiered in to make ends meet. Calisto Owino Baba Reloaded ma wuod thuru .....anene mogik Buru Buru ka ouso DVDs .....can you tell us briefly his life at the time he was promoted to glory? I know we should mind our own business but I also believe that as Nyikwa Ramogi Ajwang .....we need to advise our Stars ...The public figures: Comedians, actors, bloggers, politicians, sports men/women etc etc on how to plan well for their future lives. Litna ka ngeny onagi stars thagre bang mulo pesa mangeny!!!!! It’s a pity that Olita was reduced to hawking DVDs despite playing a leading role in the films Rise and Fall of Idi Amin (1981) and Mississippi Masala(1991) – in which he portrayed Idi Amin. He also played 1st Policeman in Sheena (1984). R.I.P OLITA
