REPORT ON MEETING WITH THE ANC WESTERN CAPE. I was accompanied by messrs Peet Van Staden, Shafiek Joseph, Trevor Trout, GC Naidoo, Tommy Beukes, Jerome Lottering, Henry T. Meyer, and Reuben Cairns. Marius Fransman was accompanied by C. Lawrence [Cosatu] R.M. Sonto [SANCO] Fezile Calama [ANC] Wesley Seale and Songezo Mjanzile. The discussions were frank, no punches were pulled but in an atmosphere of mutual respect throughout. We came away satisfied that we succeeded in our efforts to convince the anc Western Cape to have section D 3 [1] and 3[2] scrapped in its present form and to revert back to applying Provincial demographics especially in the Western and Northern Cape where Coloureds are the majority. The ANC in the WC submitted their objections to the Regulations to Min. Mildred Oliphant yesterday and showed us copies of their submission. The war is not won yet but we won the first battle.
