REPORTED TENTATIVE AGREEMENT REACHED ON SALES TAX ISSUE Assemblyman Cahill has reportedly accepted the original proposal made by the Legislature: 1) Cahill will remove his opposition to the sales tax continuation, and 2) Ulster County will fund 2/3 of safety-net costs for the towns and Kingston as of 1/1/2014. However, the $6 million loss to Ulster County, Kingston and the towns must be absorbed locally. County Executive Hein will be presenting a draft budget next Thursday morning. That budget will reportedly significantly diminish county reserves and have budget and service cuts.
