REPOST: WHEN will the idiotic and child like, whining nationalists, who trolling this page and keep purposefully confusing a fully developed first world, advanced democracy and nation state, with a colony? They do this knowing full well the difference and it just makes them look sad and pathetic. Not one state granted independence by Britain was ever part of Britain (UK); or even connected by the same combination of nation state, landmass, economy, language, culture, history, family ties. Casting Scotland as a colony you would have to remove the British Monarchy, Scottish Prime Ministers of GB/UK, UK Secretaries of State, UK Ministers, British MPs, Diplomats, Government and Banking Officials, Generals, Admirals, Air Marshals, etc who have been Scots, from Scotland, or have Scottish ancestry we are talking a huge chunk of the current British establishment and a huge chunk of British history. You would have to somehow create a meme of England oppressing Scotland, Scots not really in charge, no Scots like Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Donald Dewar, Alistair Darling, Harold Macmillan, Bonnar Law, Earl Haig, Sir Fitzroy Maclean, James Hamilton, Arthur Belfour, John Stuart, Thomas Cochrane, Charles Napier, Victor Alexander John Hope, etc, etc, etc. It is a very long list, it includes Viceroys, colonial administrators, Prime Ministers of Dominions. In order to spread such a meme you would have to count on people being easily led, naive and ill educated to tell the difference between fact and fiction! Nationalists you can spread your myths but they dont stand up to scrutiny in the outside world. Maybe people in Britain are soft? Here we tend to call a fool a fool, and I have no patience for people acting dumb. So for the benefit of nationalists, Scotland has NEVER been a colony of England, Britain, or the UK. All nations are formed by Unions, mergers, etc. Scotland was formed via dozens of unions, mergers and annexations. The idea that Scotland represents a single ethnicity, politic, religion, region, etc is bizarre but to listen to the average Scottish nationalist you could be forgiven for believing they at least are oblivious to that fact! Those who read Wings over Scotland, Newsnat Scotland, SNP blogs, and other social and alternative media are being spun a line that is is spreading what can only be termed hate mongering rhetoric aimed at drumming up support for independence from what they caste as the English or England. The lines about being milked dry, subjugated, etc come straight out of a nationalists play book, they are not based on reality. As for a government you did not elect, I have a government I didnt elect, parts of the Canadian federation have a government in Ottawa they didnt elect, same in the Northern Isles in relation to Hollyrood, governments come and go, moods change. The Conservative and Unionist Parties for example were once the most popular political parties in Scotland, the SNP was once one of the least popular. Democracy exists to accommodate as many peoples views and interests as practical, what nationalists want is just their interests and their wishes catered to, they seem to think they can have a government they elect every time they vote... cloud cuckoo land, short of a dictatorship, this is sold to the masses by the SNP who have a lot to answer for and should be held to account for it!
