RESIGNATIONS AT THEA BOWMAN: Three key educational leaders at Thea Bowman Leadership Academy in Gary have resigned. They are Gwen Adell, chief administrative officer; Rubye James, principal of Thea Bowman Junior/Senior High campus, and Alethea Fontleroy, principal of the elementary/middle school campus. Adell said she was out of town at a meeting regarding renewal of the schools charter with Ball State University Office of Charter Schools when she received an email from American Quality Schools, Thea Bowmans management company, that she needed to attend a mandatory meeting Monday in Chicago. When I went into the office, Mike Bakalis (president and CEO of AQS, which manages the school) and the attorney were there, Adell said. He told me the Drexel Board and AQS had decided not to renew my contract. They gave me the option of signing a resignation letter or a termination letter. I resigned effective Monday. They gave me no reason or explanation.
