RESPECT YOUR ELDERS (Preserving the Old) A newly acquired project - TopicsExpress

RESPECT YOUR ELDERS (Preserving the Old) A newly acquired project has recently made us aware of how important it is to preserve the originality of certain existing residences. This is not always the case as there are plenty of ugly buildings out there that need to be fixed up and completely remodelled as we have shown in some of our past projects. However this recent job was for a house in Orange Grove near Louis Botha Avenue in Johannesburg and is over 60 years old. The houses in this area have a particular charm of the old Johannesburg similar that of Kensington and Avenues in Edenvale. In fact many of the older mining towns in Gauteng boast these older areas where houses have steel pressed ceilings, corrugated iron roofs, bay windows and timber floors. It is unfortunate to see that a lot of these homes have been renovated to the point that they are completely unrecognisable. Our brief from the client was to add a second level and renovate the interior to a more modern open plan layout while maintaining the integrity and look of the existing house. This was no easy feat however our proposal was met with great joy and acceptance by the client as we managed to respect the originality of the existing house and give them what they required in terms of the renovations. We are very excited about this project and we will be posting pictures on FB as we make progress with the design. MD.
