RESTAURANT Wait Staff Etiquette: : Most patrons dont realize, unless theyve worked in the restaurant industry or have forgotten restaurant etiquette, is that Wait Staff 1) get paid below minimum wage; 2) restaurants claim at least 8% but generally 10% tip earnings, from the total dollars of the daily sales of wait staffs tables they served, to the IRS. 3) the ONLY REAL TIP and money wait staff make is anything above that 10%; even on ToGo orders (even if the service was just writing the order), unless its a Fast Food restaurant...its still on that Wait Staffs DSR, which restaurants report to the IRS. Im amazed at how many people think that theyre doing great by giving a 10% tip when they get really good service. The least tip on good service should be 15%...20% and above if the service is exceptionally good or awesome. Most Wait Staff are struggling college students....TIPPING should always be factored in when considering eating out, and where to eat out. Wait Staff should also factor that in when theyre giving service. If theyre having a bad day, and cant put It aside at work, its only going to make their day worse. collegecandy/2009/04/01/miss-manners-tipping-cheat-sheet/
