RESTING WHEN REQUIRED As busy women we often cram more things into our day than is physically possible and even then we worry that it just isnt enough. Three magic strategies always work for me when I am feeling really tired. I am talking about - listening to your body, getting the rest you need and most importantly not feeling guilty about it. Over the last week I have been incredibly busy, working very hard but also having a great time. A sore back sprung up last Thursday but due to demands on my time I just couldnt get it looked at, so of course it carried on doing its own thing. So today I had to apply my own strategies and allow my body to do some healing and I cancelled all my commitments. Despite a twinge of disappointment regarding the necessity to reschedule my day - my body is really appreciating the rest and will come back so much stronger tomorrow. So how can you make sure your body and mind stay in tip top condition? - You can listen to your body. This is so important as your body knows exactly what you need and how you can heal. You can do this by lying down and relaxing your bodys state through deep breathing. Once your body is relaxed simply ask your body how it is feeling. You will feel where the twinges lie and also words will pop into your mind. In tge process you are tuning in to your true self - the self you have that isnt affected by all the busyness around you and it has all the answers waiting for you. - Getting adequate rest for your body is so incredibly important. You can do this by ensuring that you have a regular 8 hours sleep per night, with a bedtime that supports your needs. Sleeping in a dark room or wearing an eye mask helps with melotonin so both are a great idea to aid sleep. Drinking water before bedtime also stops you feeling the effects of dehydration during your 8 hours of sleep. You also need to tune into your bodys signals. If sleep is needed you body will cry out for it - the important strategy is not to ignore it and over ride the signals the body is providing. - THE most important thing about resting when required is to not feel guilty for taking time out for yourself. Conditioning through society and family expectations often leave us feeling guilty for not completing every single thing that we set ourselves in our diaries and on our to do list. Your BODY needs you first, because without a healthy body and mind you cant actually help others and when you dont listen to your bodys needs - it will take your thought process out of the equation by forcing rest through illness, fatique or disease. So heed what your body is telling you. It is an amazing machine. Get the rest your body requires, when it needs it and you will be firing on all cylinders.
