RESULTS OF MUNICIPAL BY-ELECTIONS HELD ON 28 MAY In the municipal by-elections held in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and the Western Cape on Wednesday, 28 May 2014, the Democratic Alliance (DA) won four of the six wards contested. The remaining two seats went to the African National Congress (ANC). Voter turnout varied between 19.18% and 63.22% with an average of 31.22%. Two by-elections took place in Gauteng. The new councillors are: • Mokgadi Maria Rallele of the ANC in Ward 27, Tshwane Metro [Pretoria] Municipality. The seat was retained by the party. • Elma Johanna Nel of the DA in Ward 58, Tshwane Metro [Pretoria] Municipality. The seat was retained by the party. One by-election each took place in KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo. The new councillors are: • Lunga Obert Mdlalose of the ANC in Ward 2, Umvoti [Greytown] Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal. The seat was retained by the party. • Sybil Maud Nieuwoudt of the DA in Ward 4, Lephalale [Ellisras] Municipality, Limpopo. The seat was retained by the party. Two by-elections took place in the Western Cape. The new councillors both represent the DA. They are: • Beverley van Reenen in Ward 25, City of Cape Town [Cape Town] Municipality – CPT. The seat was retained by the party. • Beaula Brunildah Julies in Ward 6, Matzikama [Vredendal] Municipality. The seat was retained by the party.
