RG LeTourneau The Mover Of Mountains And Men Being who I am and what Ive been involved in and been around my whole life, construction and equipment I am fascinated by one person more than any other. I read his book, the title of which is the title of this story, many years ago and have bought and given away many copies of it. It is about a fellow that tackled building the biggest and most unusual machines this world has ever seen. His machines are some of the largest pieces of iron ever assembled with the most advanced engineering ever tried. Many of the things he built were copied by other companies and built as production machines. The pan scraper being one of those. The techniques he used in his machines are now the way things are just now being employed today by many other companies. An example would be using huge electric motors to independently drive each wheel of being front end loaders and off road trucks. He was doing this 60 plus years ago. Almost all of his pieces of equipment are one of a kind and are engineered and built in a production facility is in Longview, Texas. He created The LeTourneau University which is in Longview as well. He was a man of strong character and unyielding faith. While many believers in churches everywhere tithe at an amount of 10%, RG LeTourneau tithed 90%. He had many ups and down in his lifetime, but even when he was on the very top of his game, he lived very modestly. To say he was an unusual individual, would be an understatement.
