RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DEVOTIONAL Knowing His Voice · Wednesday, March 12th Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me (Revelation 3:20). The Lord Jesus said, My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me (John 10:27). In other words, if you belong to Christ, you have no problem discerning His voice. Many wonder if it’s possible to hear God speak, in a world where there’re so many voices. The words of the Master in John 10:2-5 clarify this: But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee fromhim: for they know not the voice of strangers. The more you study the Word, the more you recognize and know the voice of God, because God and His Word are one. He speaks through His Word. Even if He were to give you a prophecy or a word from the Spirit, it’ll always be consistent with His written Word. Through constant meditation on His Word, His voice becomes clearer to you, and His blessings become manifest in all you do. Joshua 1:8 says, This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. If, as a Christian, you’ve found it difficult to recognize God’s voice, you need to keep hearing and receiving His Word into your spirit, to become sensitive to His voice. You’d need to develop a voracious appetite for the Word. Colossians 3:16 says, Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom…. The voice of God’s Spirit is made known to you through the written Word. Moreover, you have to learn to act on the Word quickly. When you receive instructions or counsel from God’s Word, don’t delay; act quickly. That’s learning to train your spirit. In addition, praying in the spirit, that is, praying in tongues, helps your spirit to be conditioned to be in sync with God’s ideas, visions and promptings. The more you pray in tongues, the more sensitive your spirit will be to His voice. Confession I know the voice and the leading of the Spirit, for I’m a child of God. I’m always quick to respond to the promptings, instructions and counsel from God’s Word, and from His Holy Spirit within me. Amen. f u r t h e r s t u d y: Colossians 3:16; Proverbs 4:20-22; Isaiah 55:10-11 : Mark 15:1-20 Numbers 32-33 : Acts 27:1-8 Psalm 73
