RICHARD RUSSELL SCENIC HIGHWAY: Yesterday afternoon (11-12-2013) I did my monthly temperature survey from intersection with GA 75-Alt (Elev: 1600 ft) at Smithgall Woods Conservation Area .... all the way up to Hogpen Gap (Elev: 3485 ft). It was 13 degrees colder in Hogpen Gap than at Smithgall Woods. (32 vs. 45)... Stopped at Overlook 4.5 and took a shot of Hickorynut Mtn....most of leaves off trees....however Hickories and American Beeches and a few Sassafras are still holding onto their leaves. ALso got a great shot of an unusual cloud pointing to the Northeast (attn: George Wetzel ) .... also got a splendid shot of the Moon (71% illuminated) all this about 4:45 PM EST. What a beautiful world we live in!
