RIGHT OR WRONG There is no such thing as almost successful. Why do people think that no effort deserves positive results? Without any exertion they seem puzzled when things start to slowly slide southward. What’s even more confusing is when people refuse responsibility when things aren’t working out. Glenda and I had been appointed pastors of a small church that was in deep, desperate financial condition. The business community seemed well aware of our situation since this church was behind in all its bills. I met with the bank that held our loan. We were thirteen months in arrears. I didn’t understand why they hadn’t foreclosed. The President was courteous but not exactly pleasant or patient. I said “sir I wasn’t here when we got into this mess but I will be here when we get it caught up and I want you to remember that I told you that it would happen.” I got the feeling that he had heard similar statements in the past. It would be difficult to stir the pride of a congregation that had never had anything to be proud of. We set a target budget which was the minimum amount needed to keep from falling any further behind. The first few weeks we missed the mark considerably but in week four we exceeded the objective and continued to do so every week thereafter. Ninety days later I personally handed the president of the bank the last past due payment. Being behind isn’t comfortable but that doesn’t make it right. I took responsibility, caught up and we were not only never late again but we were always early. Many people fear to face negatives because they think they just might lose the battle. Opportunity presents us with the chance to succeed or fail. We cast the deciding vote. There is no such thing as almost successful. You either are or you’re not. A great football coach was asked why he lost a certain game. He replied “we didn’t lose that game – we just ran out of time”. In his mind the other team quit because the final gun sounded but he was willing to go on until the score read differently. In Romans 4:21 there’s a three point outline that settles this matter once and for all. Speaking of Abraham’s faith it says that he was fully persuaded that what God had promised God was able to perform. Only one of these points is assigned to man. We are responsible to be fully persuaded. God promises and God performs but in between the two is my persuasion. The most prolific computer ever invented is the human brain. Its possibilities are incomparable but its potential has to be programmed. It won’t quit until it is told to. Being right emanates from the choices we make. Right or wrong Gal. 6:9 – And let us not e weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. When we do nothing, zero will be the result The blame must be placed, just who is at fault People are pretty good at making an excuse But when accepting blame most of us refuse We decline to act when we think we might crash Opportunity is everywhere its explosive, its vast We try but give up and our efforts just don’ last We do what we want but, this truth, we fail to grasp The brain is powerful but often beaten with ease There is no comparison yet it succumbs to disease There must be some direction on how to perform Without any motivation it will simply adjourn Powerful progress demands demonic defeat Satan is a liar and operates in total deceit What we choose will lead us right or wrong The path we take declares to whom we belong What we do is done because we decide Reform takes place from deep inside The Spirit grants life after the flesh has died When self is denied integrity will thrive R.L.
