(RIGHT TO INFORMATION) CIC slams cops for wrong data on 26/11... Four years after IPS officer Ashok Kamte was killed in the Mumbai terror attacks, law-enforcement agencies either refused to part with basic data or provided wrong information on call records to his widow Vinita Kamte. She had invoked the Right to Information Act to seek records of communication on the police wireless network in south Mumbai on November 26, 2008. Cops refused to part with the information on the grounds that the records were confidential or that the case was sub judice. After Ajmal Kasab was hanged, Vinita approached chief information commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad. On the day of the hearing, the assistant police commissioner and the designated information officer did not attend proceedings without assigning any reasons. Gaikwad then made it clear to the police that if the designated officer failed to attend the proceedings on the next day, then he would impose a fine. A week ago, when the case was taken up for hearing, a senior IPS officer who attended said he was unaware of the information sought by Kamte and the reply given by the administration. A visibly disturbed Kamte told Gaikwad that she received two letters, but the information provided was wrong and contradictory. Gaikwad was also shocked when he read the letters. Surprised over their casual approach, Gaikwad has asked the Mumbai police to provide her specific information and also asked the additional chief secretary to ensure that there is no scope for a fresh complaint against the police….
