RIMPAC started yesterday here at Pearl Harbor. This is a biannual event where nations with a Pacific coast are invited to do naval maneuvers / training with the USA centered around Hawaii. Last count there was 22 nations participating with 49 ships. A new participant this year is Mainland China. Notably absent is Russia. The US has the most ships participating (including at least the two carriers docked here, and the usual array of cruisers, destroyers, frigates, tenders, assault ships, and submarines). The nation that has the second-most ships participating? China, with four: a destroyer, a frigate, and two medical ships. The COOL thing is that active duty folks and their families can tour the various ships. I am eager to board the Chinese destroyer.
