RIP Eddie Guerrero 1967-2005 9 years ago today the wrestling world was in complete shock and horror to learn of the passing of Eddie Guerrero. The first time I ever met Eddie was right before the Hall of Fame in 2004. WWE had a line of superstars doing autographs and the first person I went to was Eddie. I was so excited because I had never met him before and he had the belt with him. I told him congratulations on his first WWE championship and how excited I was to meet him. He was very nice. It was supposed to be only autographs but I asked him for a photo and he was more than gracious. (See below). I met him a couple more times after that and he was always appreciative and kind. Eddies very last match just happened to be in my hometown of Indianapolis. It was a Smackdown taping. I sat second row right next to the ramp and was sitting right next to where Eddie got out of his car. (See below). Im so happy I got to see his last match live and cheer for him one last time. I never wouldve dreamed in a million years that would be the last time I ever saw him. Raw and Smackdown were being taped together as a SuperShow on the following Sunday in Minneapolis. Looking back I have no idea why I decided to go to a random taping in Minneapolis. Apparently something told me I needed to be at that show. I drove up on Saturday to Chicago and met up with some friends. We were originally going to Minneapolis that day but decided to just make the drive on Sunday. We were around 2 hours from Minneapolis when my phone rang. It was my friend Laura. She had a weird tone to her voice and I could tell something was wrong. She told me the news that Eddie Guerrero had died. I was in complete shock. I kept thinking it was some kind of crazy joke. He was standing right next to me 5 days earlier. How was this possible? It just didnt seem real. I will never ever forget walking into that arena. It seemed like half of the people knew and half didnt. I remember being in the merchandise line and a little kid was asking for an Eddie Guerrero shirt. He had no clue. It broke my heart. When we went down to our seats it was so somber and quiet. His lowrider car was propped up by the entrance stage. I walked over by it and just stared at it and shook my head. I was still in disbelief. The show was one of the saddest things Ive ever been a part of. I thought the show was a great tribute to not only Eddies career but also his life. Eddie was scheduled to win the World title that night at the tapings. It would have been so cool to have been there live for it. No matter what Im very glad I was there that night and able to be part of such a special show. I always wonder how Eddies career would have panned out had he not passed. When would he have retired? Would he still make appearances today? Those are questions we will never know the answer to. One thing we do know for sure is that Eddie Guerrero will go down in history as one of the greatest pro wrestlers of all time. RIP Eddie. #EddieGuerrero #WWE #LatinoHeat #RIPEddieGuerrero
