RIP Sweet Wendy Wendy was rescued by The Dog Rescuers Inc, she had a tough start to life but found an amazing home to call her own for the past two years. She was also featured in The Dog Rescuers Inc promotional video because she was that special. My heart goes out to all the volunteers who helped save this girl and to her family for giving her an amazing and loving home. Here is the original post from The Dog Rescuers Inc: Rescue is always a roller coaster of emotion, so many happy stories, so many sad and lessons to be taught to us every step of the way... It is with great sadness that we share with all of you the passing of a wonderful girl named Wendy who came into our program and hearts last summer and passed this morning unexpectedly with her loving family by her side. An unexpected cancerous tumour near her heart caused her to go into heart failure this morning leaving her family absolutely stunned and devastated. Two years ago this beautiful black Lab was brought to our attention as she sat in an overcrowded , financially maxed out pound with volunteers who loved her but no resources to help her and so we stepped in...The journey to us began and through the passion and organization of Lucy Moye volunteers stepped forward and did legs of transport to get this girl into our care. Wendy had scrapes and marks on the side of her face and on her body that suggested that she had been hit by a car and dragged or worse and tied to a car. She had gone into the pound as a stray and no one came for her. The entire time this gentle girl remained trusting and loving and full of personality winning the hearts of all she met. Her foster family absolutely fell in love with her and so the Collinson family adopted her as she had already adopted them. This morning as I listened to her Mom tell me she was gone , I couldnt stop my tears , my heart broke for all of them and of course the huge question of why loomed heavy..... You wonder after all she has been through that why couldnt she have longer with the family that loves and adores her , why couldnt she have crossed their path years ago rather than having to endure all she did to get here, why when there are so many sitting in misery who live lives of pure hell yet remain chained to a tree , or hidden in a basement or a garage somewhere for years.....why when they finally find their way home to a family that loves them is her life now cut short? Wendy had a huge impact on her family , on those around her - when we first saw that face with all its scrapes the first thing you wanted to do was make it all better for her ...and funny enough Wendy just made you smile. She had lessons to teach and hearts to touch and she did just that. Her time may have been short but she didnt die alone on a road , or as just an ID number in a shelter , she had her family who loved her dearly and she has left her paw prints on their hearts and her TDRI familys. If only all the other dogs out there who have never known a kind hand, or what it is like to be loved could have even a moment of the life that Wendy Collinson finally had. RIP Wendy.
