RIP to my HS Principal. For my local SoCal friends, not sure if you had this growing up. Syracuse was not a small city, in fact there were 4 public high schools for the one city. Henninger H.S. was the school visited by President Obama recently, where he discussed the severe drop out rate of African Americans in the community. This seemed odd to me initially, when I graduated, many if not all of my African American friends went on to graduate college even. Peter Kavanagh was a man who seemed to know every student that walked that hall by name, what you excelled in and where you struggled. The quiet ones, the athletes, the trouble makers, you name it, he knew us all. I honestly cant say I have seen that here in SoCal and perhaps it is just the times. This man truly was a gem, a unique and passionate leader and people person.
