RIVERSIDE CITY COLLEGE: LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSING PROGRAM RANKS 2ND IN STATE FOR NATIONAL EXAM FIRST-TIME PASS RATES Riverside City College’s Licensed Vocational Nursing program ranked number two in California for the NCLEX-Practical Nursing exam first-time pass rate – coming in at 99.32 percent, according to PracticalNursing.org. The organization analyzed 166 approved programs across the state over the past several years and ranked the top 50. “The ranking is a testament to our faculty and students in the program,” said Sandra Baker, dean of the RCC School of Nursing. “We work tirelessly to help students be successful in both the classroom and clinical setting.” The RCC Vocational Nursing program enrolls 45 to 50 students each year. Approximately 50 percent of students obtain jobs in skilled nursing facilities, ambulatory care clinics, visiting nurses associations, and hospitals after graduation. The other half continue preparation for entry into an RN program. The NCLEX-PN exam is used by state boards of nursing around the country for testing proficiency and granting licensure. The RCC Vocational Nursing program was established in 1952, and was approved by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners in 1953. The vocational nursing curriculum provides knowledge that incorporates the natural, social, and behavioral sciences and focuses on manual and technical skills required for patient care.
