ROCKY is STILL WAITING for a FOSTER: How can that be with almost 24,000 views of his plight? This is Rockys story: Last summer SOAR built a fence for a family in Winchester that had 5 dogs on chains. The first morning of the fence build we noticed a dog (Rocky), on a chain and he was right near the fence where he could have hung himself. We also noticed he had no food or water. We continued to keep an eye on him throughout the morning and when noon came, I called the police because no one ever came out to feed and water him. The shelter in Winchester is closed on weekends. An officer arrived and we told him what was going on. We went with him to knock on the door to see if we could help. The man who owned the property came to the door and the officer inquired about the dog. He said the dog belonged to his nephew ( who did not live there) and he was at work. So SOAR stepped in and fed and watered the dog, we moved his dog house away from the fence and throughout the day volunteers went over and played with him. At the time SOAR offered to build a big fence for Rocky, however, his owner would not agree to having him neutered because he wanted to breed him. The next day during the build we visited with Rocky, untangled him, gave him treats, and love. At the end of our build, and the time came for the dogs to get to run free in their backyard,( its always such a heartwarming sight, to see a dog run free after being chained for years), I could only hear Rocky crying next door, and it still resonates with me, it was a loud, pitiful sound as if he was saying, what about me? Add to the fact that SOAR had already rescued another dog from this property and Rocky was left because the other dog had a different owner:( Over these last several months I continued to check on Rocky whenever we were in Winchester, at one point the owner agreed to let us neuter Rocky, but he backed out. Heck, I even offered to neuter the guy! Then, last Friday after spending several hours hours in Winchester with Animal Control on other cruelty cases, it was time for me to make one last stop to visit Rocky. When I called for him this time he would not come out of his dog house, he stood in the doorway looking at me as if to say, why come out, you are just going to leave again. When he did, my heart sank at the sight of him. They were letting him starve to death. We see so much cruelty day after day that I rarely lose my composure, but I did that day because I had tried so hard to help him and he had to almost die before I could. The neighbors on both sides knew this and did nothing!! I called the police and two officers showed up, the one that we had just been with on another call and the officer from last year that came when I first reported Rocky. I told them I was not leaving him behind today, and they agreed Rocky needed to be taken. Both officers are dog lovers. The property owner signed him over and he will never see the end of a chain again! Rocky needs a long-term foster that can provide: Love, Patience, and Commitment ***Foster MUST be home a good bit to help him through this stage and live in the Georgetown, Lexington, Frankfort area so we can get him to and from his vet in Georgetown*** He has been to the vet once so far and he could not be vaccinated due to his condition. He goes back this week. He was severely dehydrated, loaded with worms and the vet could not feel his insides because he was so bloated. The person fostering him will be so blessed by seeing him transform from a skeleton to a strong, healthy dog. He weighs 44 pounds now, and should weigh 60-70. Each day we learn something new about him. For instance, The first night he was so weak he couldnt even jump up on the couch, now, he can jump over a baby gate, he will counter surf for food ( no shocker there :), he seems to not mind other animals, and he likes to lay in your lap. Thats Rockys story: Wont YOU open your Heart & Home to him? *SOAR WILL PAY ALL EXPENSES* Call 859-621-0079 or message us.
