RRV Success story - 4/12/2013 - Brisbane Office Hi Erina, Just a quick note to say thanks for your tireless efforts in spreading the word about RRV’s. Went in to the Brisbane Office this morning and all sorted within 10 minutes (took 6 weeks to get interview). I had a stack of paper work but all they really wanted was a rates notice (or similar) to show ties to Australia. It probably helped that my twins were born here as well (presented birth certificates). The staff at the Brisbane office seemed to know all about it. The first questions was, “Why did I want to do this?” and I said simply that I wanted to contribute more fully to Australian society and this was a pathway to citizenship. I had been away 15 years but easily explained as travelling, then attending Uni and then working to gain experience before returning to Australia. Put simply I think any reason that is compelling to yourself is OK. Don’t stress over this – just be honest and explain your reasons and have some documents (in my case passports showing overseas travel and uni docs). I don’t think they care about the reason, as long as you have one. If you were a minor when you first came to Australia then the compelling reason is very easy. They did suggest that it was probably better to post in your application as it will be a lot quicker to process. Thanks again – roll on citizenship! PS. My wife is a Nurse but employer would not sponsor her because she is a Kiwi. Luckily she had travelled here before 1994 (as a minor) so she is applying for RRV as well. Twins were born here and have NZ citizenship by descent. Have to wait another 6 years before they become citizens – unlikely that we will pay $4k each beforehand.
