[RULES OF (EMPLOYEE) ENGAGEMENT] Hi Guys, Jeremy DeMerchant - TopicsExpress

[RULES OF (EMPLOYEE) ENGAGEMENT] Hi Guys, Jeremy DeMerchant here, and today is Q&A Sunday. This is where I answer questions I’ve received throughout the week about sales, marketing, management, leadership, or anything else that has to do with you improving the results you get in your business today. Today’s question comes from a manager in Arkansas. He runs a team that struggles to find value in the work they do, and as a result there is a clear lack of employee engagement, and important tasks are being neglected. First of all, when we talk about placing value on a specific position or employee, we first need to look at the manager. Often, without even realizing it, we as managers can feel as though our own staff members are lacking value. Your staff can feel this, so if you are having engagement issue with your staff, start with looking in the mirror and think about how you are showing up to your team. Second of all, you need to focus on the individual needs of your employees. This is broken into 2 parts. 1: What the personally want to achieve by being in their role – this may be a goal around career progression, income, or savings goal. 2: People want to know that they are part of a bigger cause. In watching the new movie Hercules last night, there is a great scene where people achieve success based on their passion for achieving a common goal, and not necessarily because of their skill levels to succeed. Feeling like you are a vital piece in a much larger picture will cause you to push harder to achieve results. Being a part of a greater goal fills an intrinsic need in people, and will result in higher levels of engagement, as well as greater success. I look forward to your comments below about this, and I welcome more questions for next week’s Q&A Sunday. Until then, Don’t Get Comfortable. Get Results. Jeremy S. DeMerchant
