RUN REPORT #63 – 31 AUGUST 2013 After the previous weeks wet run, conditions were near perfect for this weeks run – not too hot, slightly overcast and a light breeze. In fact, for some of us not running it was even a little chilly, reminding us that Summer is coming to a close and Autumn nearly upon us. A chance to witness the park in all its Autumnal beauty is just around the corner. 244 runners finished this week – after last weeks dip below 200 runners it was nice to see everyone and especially a warm welcome to the parkrunners joining us for the first time. One of those was Sarah Andrews who was also our first female finisher, so well done to Sarah and we hope to see you back soon. Michael Hobbs is making a habit of being our first male finisher and this week it was his 5th time first across the line. If you haven’t already checked, the full results are available here; parkrun.org.uk/tilgate/results/latestresults/ We continue to clock up new runners achieving their parkrun club t-shirts. Well done to Hugh Etherton, Fiona Viles and Gary Thayre who all ran their 50th this week. Apologies to Gary for not giving him a name check at the start of the run. In addition, Ethan Cowdrey was another of our amazing juniors who ran his 10th run. With schools back and holidays done for most people we are expecting increased numbers over the next few weeks, and a chance to promote parkrun to your friends and family either as walkers, joggers, runners or volunteers. September is like the New New Year these days to get fit and maybe lose a little of that holiday weight. Just in case any of them are a little nervous about those first steps please remind them that parkrun is open to all ages and all abilities. And you can never come ‘last’ as that honour goes to our tail runner each week. A special note that this week regular Tilgate parkrunner Victoria Butler completed the course….on crutches! And still under the hour mark. What a great effort. Just make sure that any new parkrunners are registered parkrun.org.uk/register/form/ with Tilgate as their home parkrun and DON’T FORGET YOUR BARCODE each week. And finally a couple of forthcoming dates for your diary; Saturday 7 September – Join In volunteers week for ‘new to parkrun’. If you’ve done only a couple of runs this could be your chance to give volunteering a go. Please email tilgatehelpers@parkrun stating any particular role you might like to try out. Saturday 21 September – Pacer week. We are hoping to put together a wide range of pacers for this week, be it sub 20 minutes or 45 minutes and all stations in between. If you’d like to give pacing a go then please email into tilgatehelpers@parkrun stating which pace you would like to set. And remember pacing is also a volunteer role so your chance to clock up some volunteer points as well. Thanks Julie…..and Alnur, James, Judith Chalmers (Keith is on holiday again!) and Nick
