THIS POSITION IS TO BACK-FILL A REGULAR RURAL CARRIER AND NORMALLY ONLY WORKS ONE DAY PER WEEK**** Position Information TITLE: RURAL CARR ASSOC/SRV REG RTE NON-SCHEDULED DAYS: VARIABLE - MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK ON SATURDAYS HOURS: VARIABLE DRIVING REQUIRED: YES SALARY: $16.26 PER HOUR + EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE ALLOWANCE SALARY RANGE: $16.26 PER HOUR FINANCE NUMBER: 365992 Functional Purpose Cases, delivers, and collects mail along a prescribed rural route using a vehicle; provides customers on the route with a variety of services. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Sorts mail in delivery sequence for the assigned route. 2. Receives and signs for accountable mail. 3. Loads mail in vehicle. 4. Delivers mail to customers along a prescribed route and on a regular schedule by a vehicle; collects monies and receipts for accountable mail; picks up mail from customers roadside boxes. 5. Sells stamps, stamped paper and money orders; accepts C.O.D., registered, certified, and insured mail and parcel post; furnishes routine information concerning postal matters and provides requested forms to customer. 6. Returns mail collected, undeliverable mail, and submits monies and receipts to post office. 7. Prepares mail for forwarding amd maintains records of change of address information. 8. Prepares a daily trip report and maintains a list of the customers on the route. 9. Conducts special surveys when required. 10. Maintains an inventory of stamps and stamped paper as needed to provide service to customers on the route. 11. Provides for mail security at all times. WRITTEN EXAM RCA - Things to Know RURAL CARRIER ASSOCIATE # This job is a non-career position with no benefits. You will sort mail into separations, pull it down in delivery order and deliver it from your vehicle. ON-CALL # You cannot count on coordinating this job around other obligations. In the event of illness, injury or emergency, you may be called to work on short notice. LIMITED/VARIABLE WORK HOURS # Depending on the assignment, you may work one day a week OR LESS and when the regular carrier is not available for work. You must be available for work on Saturdays. VEHICLE # You must have a vehicle that is capable of carrying the mail volume for the route(s) you are assigned. You will receive a mileage allowance that is to be used to keep your vehicle in good working condition. You are responsible for providing a back-up vehicle. Vehicles with manual transmissions or bucket seats and pick-ups with no place to secure all of the mail will not work for this job. You must have a good driving record and meet postal driving requirements. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - The RCA/TRC job is more than riding around in your car. You must sort mail, load your vehicle with mail bundles and parcels, and deliver mail from the right-hand side. It requires prolonged standing, reaching, twisting, lifting, loading and carrying up to 70 pounds. THIS IS A PHYSICALLY DEMANDING JOB! DRIVING CONDITIONS # You must be competent driving on all kinds of road surfaces in every weather condition, whether it is wind, snow, ice, rain, dust, mud, broiling heat or freezing cold. Qualified applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening to meet the U.S. Postal Services requirement to be drug free.
