Race Report: Hillingdon 4th cat Crit The race started off at a reasonably moderate pace 24-25mph. I was holding a good position in the middle of the pack for the first half and my plan had been to sit there until the last lap or so. A few people were making small breaks but nothing that looked like it could stick. I figured I had better take a bit of a turn on the front and lead the race for a couple of laps dropping back to 3 or 4th for a bit of a rest. About 40 mins in one of the stronger looking guys had pulled about 10m in front of the group so I thought Id have a go and managed to get on his wheel without the others catching us. We managed to keep a good gap for about 3 laps taking turns on the front, but then a group of 5 caught us and then the whole pack bunched up again. For the last 15 mins or so I was sat on the front or in 2/3 place. There were a few attempts at breaks in the last 5 laps but they were chased down straight away. 2 laps to go i was at the front taking it pretty steady just making sure I was in position for when someone did go, but no one was going. I was still on the front with less than half a lap to go so I just hit the pedals going up the hill and went round the bends as fast as i could, coming into the finish straight I had 20m+ but there was a guy coming up pretty quick. Finally crossed the line half a bike length in front of 2nd place. This would have been a good race for people to have a go at. I dont think anyone that rides with group 1 would have got dropped and I think quite a few could have made top 10 :-)
