Race Report: I raced the 35 plus Lake Hughes Road Race in Castiac, small field (30 or so) but only the strong showed up knowing the terrain we had to cover over 2 out and back laps along lake Hughes Road. There is no flats, you are climbing or descending, and with the wind it felt like all climbing. As usual DeMarchi and a Helens rider rode off in the first 10 miles. My plan was to attack on the 1.9 mile hill (7-8%) coming back to thin the grp. when we reached the hill I put in 3 massive attacks, each time chased by Phil Tintsman, the grp was thinning, After the third attack tintisman and Johnson, pull the small grp back and begin setting tempo, someone at back yells for them to slow down ( I assume it was another MM guy) So I attack again wanting to pop that rider. Well this time only Tintsman responds and with a healthy gap he decides to go, I was cooked, stayed with him only a few minutes if that - then was in la la land, I let the small grp behind catch me. Goal accomplished sort off, my attacks reduced the grp to 7 riders, but back fired in that I launched Tintsman who was able to bridge to Demarchi and the Helens rider. Oh well, our grp sets good tempo, and I cover all moves. On the final hill coming back, only me and kevin Philips are taking pulls on the hill, mid way another hellens rider attacks, not worried if we keep him in site we can catch on false flat and downhill, except no one helps I drop back to force the others, when Philips attacks, Im tired cant respond, roll with the grp to 2k to finish when I attack the grp and ride on to finish 6th. Im happy with the result road aggressive and hard, I felt I should have made the move for 4th but thats racing. Any way good luck to those racing the crit today.
