Race report: Virginia Running Festival Massive Medal Half - TopicsExpress

Race report: Virginia Running Festival Massive Medal Half Marathon, 1:30 pacer, finished in 1:29:05. This is not an optimal time for a 1:30 pacer, but let me tell my side of the story: At about the 11 mile mark, I had two runners with me; Sika Henry, who at the time was in 2nd overall for the women and Dave Anderson, a PTC member who was on pace for a PR (after setting a 6 minute PR in the marathon just two weeks prior). The female in 1st at the time was within striking distance (maybe 1/10th of a mile ahead), and Sika said she wanted to catch her, so we gradually sped up, and Sika took the lead with less than a mile to go. We ran the last 2+ miles at around a 6:30 pace, but both runners pulled away from me and finished in front of me, so I didnt drop anyone in my group, and I probably would have finished at around 1:29:35 if we hadnt picked it up over that span. And the coolest part of it (besides Sika winning) was that both PRd - Sika by over a minute and Dave by over THREE MINUTES! Very cool experience, although it was pretty challenging for me, on a flat course in perfect weather - still working my way back - hope to be in decent shape for the USATF Club XC National Championships in mid-December. Congratulations to Michael Leech for another great race, finishing second and tieing his PR, to Jennifer Domin Quarles for completing her 12th Half this year for Wounded Warriors, to Debbie Barrass McLaughlin for a big (2 minute?) PR in the half, to Laura Shannon for another great performance, to Jessica Burcham for finishing 2nd in the 5K, and for Paul Freiling for being the worst 1:45 pacer ever.
