Race update: Ethan competed in Round 2 of the Asian Karting Open - TopicsExpress

Race update: Ethan competed in Round 2 of the Asian Karting Open Championship (August 23-24, 2014) which was held at the Carmona Race Track in Philippines. Racing in the MiniROK category with 10 other racers, he experienced a very trying weekend. Many things didnt go according to plan. Still, all is not lost as Ethan gained valuable experience which will help him becoming a better kart driver. Here is a short interview with Ethan: 1. What do you think of the Carmona Race Track? It is a very tricky to drive on. It is also a very fast circuit. You have to find the right braking points for some of the turns or else you will loose traction and slide a lot. I like that the straights are long as you can build up speed and overtake when the opportunity presents itself 2. Was your kart performing well? The kart felt really good in practice. I was expecting to do well during qualifying. However, it felt very underpowered suddenly when the session started; especially when coming out of the turns. It was really frustrating. 3. How do you feel about your driving performance? Overall, I would give myself a 7/10 rating. I could have driven the high-speed first turn better as the rest of the karters were faster than me. But I was pleased with my overtaking as I felt that I have improved in this all-important area. 4. What have you learnt from the event? The one thing that I took away from this round in the Philippines is that luck plays a (very) important part in racing. LOL! 5. What do you hope to achieve at the next race (Round 3, Macau)? My goal for every AKOC race is the same; to clinch a podium place. And if I do win, thats a bonus.
