Radar Bogor, 5th July 2013 Youth from Southeast Asia Visit SMPN13 Yesterday (4/7) youth representatives from Southeast Asia facilitated by terre des hommes Germany visited SMPN 13 Bogor (Government Junior High School). This visitation was attended by youth representative from Vietnam, Laos, Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Indonesia. They wear their respective traditional clothes. Each country sends 3 youth representatives, except from Indonesia as host there are 8 representatives involved. Children representative are those at age 14-18 years old, and for youth representative at age 19-24 years old. Indonesia Country Coordinator of terre des hommes Germany-Roosa Sibarani says that this activity is the climax of several activities. Several days before they had regional children and youth partners meeting at CICO Resort in which event they formed tdh SEA Youth Network facilitated by terre des hommes Germany. Those children and youth have concern not only on environment issues, but also on child rights, education and also some of them coming as representative of ethnic community located at border Thailand, Laos and Cambodia such as Karen and Aka. Regional Coordinator terre des hommes Germany- Alberto Cacayan says that the purpose of the visit which facilitated by Rimbawan Muda Indonesia (RMI) is to give motivation, inspiration and sharing ideas on the importance to protect and conserve the environment particularly Cisadane river. They have agreed to have joint-action in Southeast Asia region, that are first, to share information among them on the current situation happening in their respective countries, particularly on environment and education. For children and youth groups in Indonesia which is facilitated by RMI (Rimbawan Muda Indonesia) will put their focus on Cisadane river. For other countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia put their focus on Mekong Region River. Current situation that there are five dams are planned to be built and this plan will bring big changes and impact to the community living along Mekong Region River, livelihood and destroy bio and eco system surround. In the Philippines, they focus on situation at Agusan and Rio Grande de Mindanao rivers. Complicated problems are happening there since exist of oil palm plantation and mining areas which give impact to the community and ethnic group living along the river. Second, From now on and next years, children and youth representatives from seven countries have agreed to promote and raise public awareness on environment degradation. Today, they will have launching of tdh SEA Youth Network. “The children and youth also open themselves to do joint-campaign on ecology and education issues,” says Roosa Sibarani. tdh SEA Youth Network has their annual meeting. Their visit to Indonesia is for the second meeting. Before they had meeting in Thailand, and next year they will have their meeting in Myanmar (Burma). “ They are happy and want to contribute their support to Myanmar’s people since this country is open and welcome outsiders. They plan to have next meeting by July 2014,” Roosa Sibarani said.
