Radio, Radio - where for art thou Baltimore Radio... do you not know the past is your future. Your audience is much to sophisticated now; you cant spoon feed them what YOU think they want; what they need. Following trends created in ad rooms of major corporations holding the music industry hostage wont work; theyre onto you - the general public. Me, well, Ive always been the consummate listener. By that I mean that Ive listened to what the people wanted to listen to and I gave it to them. You see, the listeners back then ( 1970s ) imparted a wonderful gift when they would call me on the phone; in studio. I would make doubly sure that the vocal minority requested songs were the next thing up on the airwaves. Some of my in studio quests even assisted that goal. And why not; disciples all. Letting their friends and school mates know that when you listen to that radio station, they honor the music you request. Sure, I mixed it, produced around it, put it all in order, so to speak; I did my best to make it interesting, fun, exciting radio theater; enjoyable; entertaining if not a way to make people use their minds to examine the world around them. Thats not radio today. Radio today ( musically and in every music format ) is a jukebox; a programmed robotic factory that only stops for the only real reason its there in the first place; something needs to be purchased and you need it, want it and should go run out right now and get it. Correct ? So as I sit here on Farce Book sealing my radio fate, if not my entire career; maybe theres that one person out there that understands that radio is all about the needs of the people that listen. They are not interested in those mass produced National / Global trends created by advertising agencys. As I noted above, your audience is much to sophisticated now; you cant spoon feed them what YOU think they want; what they need. I have a music plan that is based entirely on the needs of the people. In fact, its a plan as to how to operate an entire radio station much the same way. Wait until you see the billboards were going to put up. More later though. The herbal tea is ready, my doctors are here, as is the corn bread biscuits and homemade butter. Call me, we can talk about how radio can be fun again... for the listener.
