Adjacent channel interference is not a reality. AM DX reception is quite good after sunset with clear atmospheric conditions present. Weak signal AM reception is of acceptable quality for this product category. The metal telescopic antenna can only be extended vertically for competent FM and NOAA WB reception. Soft rock, classic rock, oldies, classical music and jazz FM Band music stations offer great fidelity, high quality vocals and enhanced reproduction of percussion instruments. FM Band stations come in distortion-free. I am able to receive a low-power transmission college radio station on the FM Band at night. The monaural speaker can reproduce subtle tones, talk and music skillfully without sounding either dull or harsh. The speakers depth and detailed acoustic output make this tabletop radio very enjoyable for fatigue-free listening. The RadioShack 12-889 Tabletop Portable Radio can play at significant volume levels as the Volume Knob is turned up through most of its usable range. NOAA Weather Band reception is the most challenging for me as I can only receive one station in my geographical location. The sound is low compared to the other two bands but I am able to hear the latest forecast with a slight boost in volume and extension of the telescopic antenna. The Tuning (Tuner) Knob is this radios best feature. It has perfect size, ergonomic grip and graceful feel to it in my hand. There is just a smoothness, solid grasp and quality sturdy motion to the Tuning Knob when it is being turned to navigate to the next available station. The Tuning Knob easily locks in on any radio station. The Tuner Knobs superb, steady and accurate range of motion eliminates the possibility of station-drift once a strong signal is received. This RadioShack 12-889 Tabletop Radio is a very decent portable audio product for the enjoyment of tunes outdoors at the beach, sitting poolside, at the park or while walking on the boardwalk. The RadioShack 12-889 Tabletop Portable Radio can be placed in the office for a traffic update before the drive home and indoors such as the kitchen or the bedroom for any type of music or news program. I think its great for must-listen late-night sports talk radio program after the big football game upset win. My radio does not demonstrate any noticeable flaws in AM/FM/WB reception, sound quality, sensitivity or selectivity reception in its routine daily use. The radios back panel reveals a battery compartment that provides the two alternative power sources. There is a hardwired AC power cord for non-mobile operation and spring-loaded DC battery contact terminals for 4 optional C batteries. My preference is for portable use and I use batteries exclusively.
