Radiotherapy was truly awful! Even though nearly 6 months has passed since finishing it, Im still suffering from the side effects! As the RT targeted my face and neck, it caused some horrendous ulcers inside of my mouth. Even after the RT had finished, the ulcers didnt heal. On closer inspection my consultant recommended to have a wisdom tooth pulled to clear the area for the ulcers to heal. The tooth was extracted in September. But, since then the hole left where the tooth was hasnt healed causing my jaw to become exposed causing horrendous pain. Twice Ive had the bone filed, hole packed and re-stitched but still, it remains open. Ive managed the pain with around 360mg of morphine a day so you can guess, its quite painful! But, today I go under general anaesthetic so my consultant can hopefully fix it totally!!! This means that after the tissues have settled, I should be pain free 👍😊 When I think about All the things Ive been through this last year, the pain and worry its caused my family, all of this could have probably been prevented. Being sensible, using a high SPF and avoiding sun beds hopefully will stop you from being in my shoes. I wouldnt wish walking in mine or my familys shoes to anyone, so just think about me when your considering having a sun bed. Get a fake tan and be safe xxxxx The pics shows where the RT burnt the outside of my face. It did the same on the inside of my mouth which turned to ulcers. RT completely kills the target area treated. Other side effects I had was loss of taste, hair loss at the back of my head where the RT leaves the area, dry mouth, ulcers, very sore and burnt skin, tinnitus & perforated eardrum which I still have, fatigue and eventually the skin around my ear broke down and got infected. And, after going through all of that, the cancer had spread to a distant site anyway...
