Ragas Suha and Sugharai ... are both types of Kanada, - TopicsExpress

Ragas Suha and Sugharai ... are both types of Kanada, however, the suffix Kanada is rarely used. As per Raga Samaya Chakra their GaanSamaya is second quarter of the day. Hardly any concerts cover that time span, and varieties of Sarang and Dhanashri dominate that time period, hence they are rarely presented. Both belong to Kafi Thata (Melakarta No.22 Kharaharapriya). Raga Suha- Aroha- ‘nS, gM, PnMPS’’; Avaroha – S’’ nP, MP, gM, P~g~M, R, S; (In Avaroha Komal Dhaivat -d- may be used sometimes.) ; Vaadi- M; Samvaadi S ; (Constituent Ragas DarbariKanada and MeghMalhar); Chalan- S, ‘nS, SRg, M, PgMRS, ‘nS, ‘n’P, S, MR, PgMRS; ‘P’nS, MRS, gMP, g,M,S’’nP, nP, S’’, nP, MPgM, RS, SRS; MMP, P, nP, S’’, S’’, nS’’, S’’M’’R’’S’’, S’’ nPMP, gM, nP, gMRS. Raga Sugharai- Aroha- SR(M)gM, PNS’’; Avaroha- S’’(n)DnP, MP, gMRS; VaadiP; Samvaadi- S; Chalan- S, RS, ‘n, SRg, MPg, M, RRgM, D, Pg, MRS; MPNS’’, NS’’, g’’, M’’, R’’S’’, PNS’’R’’S’’, (n)DnP, nnPMP, Pg, MRS; (Constituent Ragas Adana and VrindavaniSarang); Points to Note- In Raga Suha, Madhyama is Vaadi, Dhaivat is omitted; In Raga Sugharai, Pancham is Vaadi, Shuddha Dhaivat is used in Avaroha. Both the Ragas resemble each other closely, Therefore, sometimes Raga Suha-Sugharai combining features of both the Ragas is presented.
