Railways carries 31.42 mln passengers in 10 months ISLAMABAD, Jun 11 (APP): Pakistan Railways carried 31.42 passengers during 10 months of 2012-13 as compared to 41.1 million passengers during the year 2011-12.According to Economic Survey, under Public Private Partnership (PPP), Pakistan Railway started trains between Lahore and Karachi from 3rd February 2012 to cater to the needs of business community and general public.The new trains included Business Express Train Lahore-Khanewal-Lodhran-Karachi, Shalimar Express Train Lahore-Faisalabad-Multan-Karachi and Night Coach Train Lahore-Faisalabad-Multan-Karachi.These trains provide high level passenger services at competitive price while generating good revenue for Pakistan Railway. Pakistan Railways owns huge chunk of land throughout the country and has been striving to commercialize the surplus land for the past 15 years in order to overcome its financial challenges.Pakistan Railways set up an Asset Management Company for management of noncore assets of Pakistan Railways including its land bank.
