Rain reigns, CCMC groundbreaking rages! (CEBU CITY - Public Information Office) The rain yesterday morning July 15, 2014 Tuesday has failed to stop and hamper the scheduled groundbreaking ceremony of the new Cebu City Medical Center or CCMC as it turned-out to be a huge success. The activity which was held at the same site of the Peoples Hospital along N. Bacalso Avenue this city kicked off with a Eucharistic celebration officiated by Monsignor Roberto Alesna. Cebu City Mayor Michael L Rama together with other city officials, department heads and village chiefs led the ceremonial groundbreaking. He was thankful to everyone who attended the activity and likewise encourage to help in the Piso Mo Hospital Ko fund-raising campaign for the rebuilding of the Peoples Hospital. The citys chief executive also cited that for his 22 years in the city government he never seen much of government at CCMC, adding that it lacks love especially with the plan of his predecessor to sell the hospital. For the uninformed, following the advice of the Structural Engineers here and from Manila who re-inspected the hospital, CCMC is declared off limits and subject for demolition and rebuilding after sustaining serious damages during the October 15, 2013 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Central Visayas area. The hospitals services are temporarily placed in the nearby Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP7) Building along N. Bacalso Avenue to cater the medical needs of its patients while BFP was transferred to the Parian Fire Station and Cebu City Sports Center. Looking back, on February 24 this year, the ceremonial demolition of the 52-year-old hospital was conducted. It marks the start and pave the way to rebuild a modern, state-of-the-art, and world-class yet affordable public hospital. The Peoples Mayor wanted to rebuild the hospital for the poor on its current site through the public-private partnership initiative. The city council has initially approved 300 Million pesos from the citys coffers to help kick off the construction of CCMC. The 10-storey new Peoples Hospital is slated for completion in 2015. An estimated of more than One Billion Pesos is eyed to help rebuild the hospital and for those who want to help just drop by any Banco de Oro branches and deposit the money in account number 0026800-79333 under the name City of Cebu-Trust Fund or visit Cebu City Mayors Office, First Floor, Executive Building in Cebu City Hall. The city has also launched the Piso Mo, Hospital Ko fund-raising campaign to help rebuild the CCMC. To date the city has collected more than 15 Million pesos from various donations. Several pledges from various individuals and organizations are also popping in for the realization of the worthy project. Furthermore, if you will extend your help and donation, make sure that the container bears the Piso Mo, Hospital Ko campaign poster and/or the official seal of Cebu City Government.
