Rained most of the day so every training was both outside and inside at my place. I started at 10am with my student Kiwa Neha for his Magkuno-diamondback Eskrima one on one. We went over our double cain exercises and looked at the motion of each move and the possibilities. We worked the different chambers or guards, flowing in and out of different attacks and counters. At the end of the lesson we went through everything again but this time empty handed. We were then visited by one of my long time student and black belt Glen Fellow who has trained with me for nearly 22 years... No longer had both Kiwa and Glen left when my student Ryan Nicholls turned up for his 3pm training. We went over our free style of sparing using the basic 1 to 7 palasut, Ryan and my student Sabbia Tillia are working on this aspect of Magkuno Diamondback Eskrima for their Black belts. This gives our students the ability to play anyone regardless of style. It is through this type of training that the student develops their own style of fighting or reaction to an attack. It is this training that teaches us our distancing, timing, feel, defence and attack all at the same time. It also teaches you to except the hits (I wish I wore a groin guard 4 times today) It helps in the understanding of flow and body motion plus the human emotions such as, anger, frustration, fear, apprehension and builds the conference of any student to believe in themselves... This coming Monday I will be teaching a class at MMA 24/7 covering our FMA style... Have a great weekend and more power to all FMA world wide.
