Rajahmundry: The progress of IT sector which picked up momentum in the last couple of years is said to have slowed down in the recent past in Godavari districts due to Samaikyandhra stir. The two districts under the purview of Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) at East Godavari collectorate noticed export growth of 77 per cent during 2012-13 with an achievement of Rs 62 crore IT and ITE exports to various destinations across the globe. With 38 IT companies in both the districts, the STPI authorities are hoping for an achievement of Rs 75 crore exports in the present financial year 2013-14. With tier-II status for Rajahmundry, Kakinada and Tanuku, the activity is likely to spread its wing to Bhimavaram and Eluru in West Godavari with the talent pool available in the form of professional colleges in both the districts. The state government’s nod for development of ITIR with more than Rs 20,000 crore at Vizag, Chittoor and Anantapur in Seemandhra area under tier-II category, the IT sector in the Godavari districts is expected to benefit to some extent in the form of new establishments with large scale employment potential. In addition, it is also learnt that the nod given by union government for ITIR at Hyderabad with Rs 2/19 lakh crore is also expected to have its impact in these parts as some of the big IT giants may also search for tier-II cities for expansion taking into consideration their long-term interests. The IT SEZ in Kakinada suburbs and the IT park at Surampalem on the premises of Aditya Engineering College are also expected to be an added advantage for IT growth. With fresh enquiries by prospective entrepreneurs pouring in after the united AP stir was called off, the STPI authorities are hoping for the establishment of four to five companies by the end of the year in the district. Suresh, while acknowledging the contribution of Infotech in the achievement of 77 per cent export growth during the previous year, hopes for an achievement of Rs 75 crore IT and ITEs exports in the present financial year of 2013-14. - Wow Rajahmundry
