Ramadan Kareem to you and your family :) Heres my article on how to eat better during this time in The National thenational.ae/uae/health/avoid-bad-nutritional-habits-when-fasting-this-ramadan-nutritionist-says And here are a few tips they missed out on... Apart from the usual things to avoid like Fried food, too much sugar, desserts, excessive caffeine etc, the following habits we have during Ramadan, will negatively affect your body. Skipping suhoor: Waking up for suhoor and eating enough will give you fuel for the first half of the day. This meal also keeps dehydration, bad breath and digestive issues to the minimal. Having fast carbs for suhoor: Relying on too many fruits, fruit juices, bread, processed breakfast cereals will lead to a dip in sugar levels really quickly leading to massive sugar cravings and hunger pangs around mid afternoon. Under eating: Since we have very few waking hours this year, eating enough of good healthy food will be challenging. Not getting enough calories will only plummet your metabolism and cause weight gain and extreme lethargy. Skipping supplements: Omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamin C and B complex are a few to name amongst the essential nutrients you need specially during Ramadan. The requirement for these drastically goes up in this one month due to the initial stress your body goes through due to fasting conditions.
