~Random Anime Reviews~ Finished Log Horizon finally for the current season. It has been a great 25 episodes and looking forward to the Fall season. It gonna be a long summer if there are no good animes to keep me company during that time. haha. Log Horizon is not dissimilar with SAO in terms of plot mechanisms but very different in terms of the situations and how it is approached. You have SOA where everyone facing a certain death and a race against time and you have LH where everyone who are basically immortals and facing eternity in an MMORPG in which they enjoy anyways. SAO players got thrown into the mess on a newly released game. Bummer. Id say, both SAO and LH are probably borned from the same mother( .Hack anyone?) but total opposite siblings (maybe) Btw, Tower of Druaga doesnt count. Personal opinion, if youre hooked with SAOs fast paced actions and plenty of raw emotions; you might not enjoy LH. LH pretty much moves at a casual pace and pretty much quite taking it easy with the emotions.(cant find the word for the above mentioned phase ;) ) I love LH for the amazing array of characters and how each of them play role in the world of Elfer Tale. Rarely ever and never is one character totally useless. One characters plays a pivotal role one way or another. If SAO is story driven, LH is extremely character driven. There always seems to be a situation that is related to a characters actions directly or indirectly but you can trust the characters to sometimes do something you would not expect. Probably another fact how SAO differs from LH.While SAO players worked with the system (only the hero was special); LH players went beyond the system to make Elder Tale a world to call their own. Which makes it pretty much amazing. In the end, i guess the theme that Log Horizon wants to bring up is that What if you can live in your most favourite mmorpg of all time forever. As compared to SAO where, What if mmorpg is as real as it can be Even with the ending of the first world, the subsequent world(s) is not much different where the human element is still a big play that drives the story forward. Btw, cant wait for the next installment of SAO. Log Horizon takes it nice and slow as it progress through the story. Evolving nicely as it goes along. There are no shortage of twist and turns; and not to mention the number of distinct and interesting characters. I truly enjoy how there are more than one way to win a battle. As a matter of fact, most parts of LH do not involve battles but if they do, its usually quite amazing but probably not to SAOs quality. Ive all episodes subbed by Commie. Let me know if you wanna. Another thing about Log Horizon though is that you easily take a break and continue at a later time. Totally recomended for those who enjoys fantasy, strategy, multiple characters and mmorpgs.
