Random Athletic Thought: Sports used to be personal. They used to be a type of identity for athletes and whatever platform you competed on (court, field, pitch, track, pool, etc) that was your house. You had your team and all the other teams were the enemy. But now, sports are about either being nice or looks. People dont get nearly as emotional, people dont get angry and dont take things personally. They may take a loss hard, but neglect or just dont feel the added feelings against those who beat you. Sports have become about how flashy one can be and not about dominating the other player(s). There is a difference between an athlete and a player, and I feel that more people who compete in sports, at all levels, are players instead of athletes. Do I want fights to break out like the Malice in the Palace? Not really, thats extreme. But at least they take in personally. At least they back themselves and their team up. They protected their identity.
