Random History The Roman polity was one of the longest lasting in history. It lasted for roughly 2,214 years, though, in some ways it lasted even longer until the early 19th century. The ancient titles of Emperor (Latin Imperator) and Caesar were used until the early 20th century by people who still believed themselves to be heirs of Augustus. Interestingly, the last man to claim the title of Emperor of the Romans was the last Ottoman sultan. Even to this day there are states such as Liechtenstein and Russia which, in theory, are descended from the Empire.
