Random observations on being in The Hague after two weeks: (1) The symposium is really enjoyable (2) Trying to finish a doctorate while attending a symposium is not so enjoyable - tired. (3) Really looking forward to a bit of downtime with friends in Amsterdam on Saturday. (4) Dutch pubs are way too generous with foam on a pint of beer (reinforcing Irish stereotype by including this as a grievance) (5) The Hague in the sunshine is a really lovely city. In the winter; not so much. Also Madurodam: BEST PLACE EVER. (6) Regret watching Dawn of the Planet of the Apes here. The apes use sign language for most of the movie and the subtitles were in Dutch. I think I got it though; so the Apes knew that that internal affairs were setting them up the whole time? (7) My French flatmate for the first week thought my name was Gay-vin not Kevin. Not sure what kind of vibes I am giving out.
