Random thought for the day: Why do we as a staff in this business continue to fail? We are great at using fact based data to tell people why they need to implement certain procedures or establish requirements. Without providing the guidance on “how” we really want the requirement to be achieved or what the spirit and intent is behind the requirement—clarifying what the driving force behind the requirement actually “is”…..Without that, how compliance is met or achieved is open to interpretation. Couple that interpretive effort to achieve the requirement with the fact that we do not appeal to the affect; means that we do not get the personnel to value, buy in, endorse, internalize, or feel the need to achieve compliance with the spirit and intent of the requirement that is rooted in fact based data. We simply leave it at the cerebral level, the source rooted in fact based (which many never see or hear and then expect them to analyze, extrapolate, value, and internalize the need for the desired affect=compliance with the requirement)…. When that does not succeed we strive to achieve standardization… to get everyone in lock step to do everything in the exact same manner, yet those performing the task still go without knowing, understanding or valuing WHY they are doing it to begin with. Then we wonder why we continue this cycle of failure and why they bristle at our efforts.
