Random thoughts from the sports world as Ive been traveling for a few days: - Isnt the easy answer to Deflategate what the actual explanations were yesterday? That Brady likes a football that is inflated to the minimum and, during the course of a game in a cold, rainy environment, the ball deflated somewhat? Along with the fact that a 45-7 outcome wouldnt have been mitigated by a more inflated ball? It just seems the convenient excuse these days when the Patriots have success is to find the most obscure thing possible and accuse the team of violating some rule governing said obscure thing. If they find a way to beat the Seahawks - something Im not convinced they can do given the talent on the defensive side of the ball for Seattle - will we begin learning about how tight the screws have to be on facemasks? - The Hawks are crazy good. Like scary, amazing good. It means theyll still likely lose in the first or second round of the playoffs, but whatever. Its really fun basketball to watch now. - The PGA TOURs West Coast swing is underway, which is one of my favorite times of the sporting year. Plus, Tiger playing in the Waste Management Open next week - sans a front tooth - promises to be awesome. - Lastly, Im all for the Braves getting Jonny Gomes. He was my favorite player on the 2013 Red Sox, delivering this awesome bat-flip moment against the Cardinals in the World Series.
