Randy Rhoades was the son of a woman who owned a music store in Los Angeles, and he gave guitar lessons for a living. As the story goes, when Ozzy called for auditions, people showed up for the most part with big rigs, but Randy Rhoades came with only a practice amp. As Ozzy went around to each contestant - in their makeup and with their giant amps - he came across Randy Rhoads, who was just working some scales to warm up.
