Rant about school uniforms. Its not fair for myself and rest of the athletics or school activities to be singled out and have to wear them. Especially when the others dont. I object the whole thing honestly. They want us to be ourselves and express our individuality, but yet theyre making us wear a uniform. Clothing is a type of way to show our personalities. Ill be the first to admit, these girls and guys showing themselves in school is disgusting, however, the guys wont stop wearing their pants below the waist just because of a uniform. Girls are still going to wear so tight of pants or shirts you see everything. I believe they should just be more strict with the dress code. Another thing, most parents cant afford the uniforms. Yes they said theyll provide it for the poor, but what about the laundry detergent, the hangers, the bill for washing and drying their clothes. Its going to be twice as much money. Some of the students who will actually wear them will change as soon as they get home, causing more laundry and higher bills. Ill be the first to also admit, Im not the richest and my mom is a single mother. She is the only one bringing in money until I can get a job. She cant afford these bills, pay for my uniform, my school supplies, feed me, put clothes on my back or anything alone. We could end up homeless with how much money school is costing her nowadays. Especially since Im an athlete and Im in band. I have injuries and an instrument we need to take care of. Uniforms for the school will just cause us to end up broke. I know I cant be the only one in Kankakee going through this. Therefore what will the others do? What will I do? What about the families who are barely able to keep what they have? What about the parents who have more than one child? How is someones parents able to afford things with 2+ kids, when theyre barely hanging on? Also the kids who dont have parents who cant physically work? Or the families depending on the government to stay alive? They really need to think things through in my opinion.
